Okay, So Hear Me Out...
My name is Aarya Deshmukh and I'm a high school senior. If you're like me and own some form of social media (that's basically all of you), then I know you've probably seen the post. You know- The Post. It's usually a pretty girl with long hair in a field of poppies with a cheesy feminist quote captioning the picture. "She Believed She Could So She Did" or something along those lines. As a teenager I felt that all I could do was like those types of posts and move on. There's nothing wrong with posts like that, but I think it's time we move forward. "Show, not tell" as some of my incredibly wise teachers have told me. What could she believe she could do? What obstacles were stopping her from doing it in the first place? What are the real issues that need to be fixed? The beauty of the media is you have the power to literally say whatever you want to large audience. You can do so much more than like a post or retweet a tweet. You have a voice, so use it! That's exactly what I wanted to do with this website. I LOVE talking. Sometimes it gets me in trouble, sometimes it gets me awards and applause. Either way, I take pride in my big mouth and decided to take advantage. I wanted to show not tell. What am I telling? Stories. Experiences. Opinions. Ideas. All around us changes of all sizes are happening. Incredible women are doing incredible things and I want to tell their stories, along with some of my own. As a student I have the ability to constantly soak up information around me, and through meeting new people and learning about this world around me I hope to gain a better understanding of how I am going to make a difference in this world. On this site you'll find podcasts, blog posts, and interviews with some powerful women I have met on my journey. Throughout this experience my passion for women's rights have only grown, and I will continue to be an activist and talk about the issues I care about no matter what I do. The thing is, I'll always be a feminist because I'll never stop being on my own side. So take a second, and hear me out.
